Ex-BCCI President Sourav Ganguly Files Complaint Against YouTuber
Reason for Filing Complaint
Former Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Sourav Ganguly has filed a complaint against a YouTuber for allegedly making "false and defamatory" remarks against him. The complaint was filed at the Kolkata Police headquarters on Tuesday, August 8, 2023.
Details of the Complaint
In his complaint, Ganguly has alleged that the YouTuber, whose channel has over 1 million subscribers, made several baseless and malicious allegations against him in a video uploaded on August 6, 2023. The video reportedly contained allegations of financial irregularities and misconduct during Ganguly's tenure as BCCI President. Ganguly has stated in his complaint that the allegations made in the video are "completely false and baseless" and have caused significant damage to his reputation. He has accused the YouTuber of "trying to malign his image and tarnish his legacy."
Police Investigation
The Kolkata Police have registered a case against the YouTuber under sections 499 (defamation), 500 (criminal defamation), and 505(2) (false statements) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The police have initiated an investigation into the matter and are expected to summon the YouTuber for questioning.
Ganguly's Previous Legal Actions
This is not the first time Ganguly has taken legal action against those making defamatory remarks against him. In 2022, he filed a defamation case against a news website for publishing a false and malicious article about his personal life. The case is still pending in court.
Importance of Protecting Reputation
Ganguly's decision to file a complaint against the YouTuber underscores the importance of protecting one's reputation against false and defamatory statements. Defamation can cause significant harm to an individual's personal and professional life, and it is essential to take legal action to address such allegations.
