88-Year-Old Retiree Finds New Home on Cruise Ship

Extended Retirement on the High Seas

When Jeff Farschman, 72, retired from his career, he opted for an unconventional living arrangement: a luxury cruise ship. His decision is part of a growing trend of retirees embracing extended stays on cruise ships as a means of continuing their travels and experiencing new destinations without the hassle and expense of owning a home.

Meet "Mama Lee," a Cruise Ship Legend

Another notable example of this trend is Lee Wachtstetter, also known as "Mama Lee." At 88 years old in 2016, Wachtstetter had already lived aboard the Crystal Serenity full-time for 8 years. With over 100 cruises under her belt before her extended stay, Wachtstetter is considered an "extreme cruiser." She currently holds the record for most consecutive days spent on a cruise ship: 245 days in 2016.
